Rahman – Neuropathy Stem Cell Patient

*Update: Rahman was previously diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy as noted in this video. His diagnosis has since changed and he describes his current condition as an “acquired neuropathy.” Rahman, at 33, is working on his PhD and donated adult stem cells are working in him. Since the age of four his muscles have atrophied a great deal. Muscular dystrophy progressively weakens muscles. Weak muscles don’t get used and atrophy. After weighing his options around the world he settled on a hospital in China to transplant the cells. He received donated umbilical cord stem cells through a new delivery method, intramuscular injections of stem cells directly targeting atrophied muscle groups. He’s realistic about his prognosis and knows the stem cells won’t make him a superman overnight. But he’s using muscles today he hadn’t used in two decades. He has written, “Adult stem cell have also been proven effective in treating several ‘incurable’ diseases, most notably MS. Unfortunately, this issue is not discussed enough in mainstream media and the various types of stem cell therapies are conflated. This just exacerbates the confusion and fear that people harbor about trying something new. Just because the FDA hasn’t approved it doesn’t mean it’s illegitimate.” If you’d like to learn about this Penn student’s fight head over to his website at rockysfight.com.
