    Gosh what an asshole
He is letting religious people have death-grip on science. We should fully allow scientists to research embryos.

@oran6es That’s scarier than the cow that ate the duck.

@davidls11 …….not sure about that. After this last year and a half, republicans may control the house, senate, and the white house for a hundred years or so.

@oran6es That’s a possibility. If so, she might win over a lot of the Independents who might otherwise vote Republican. On the other hand, there’s a lot to be said for running an incumbent. I’m not sure which of them would make the stronger candidate.

@davidls11 He’ll be defeated in the primaries by Hillary. She’s already making her move.

The religious right would still have us relying on faith healing and blood letting. Obama has my vote in 2012.

    Hmmmm………….is a “spare” human embryo any less human than a non-spare ?

@RealityCheck86 and, can you explain why Obama wants to privatize space exploration (which is impossible – look around the world) but wants to have government control ALL of our healthcare…???
I grew up with a NHS. It was, and is still,a disaster.
Obama is out in 2012. I could not care less who wins, as long as the majority in the house is the other party, so we never again have this ‘screw what the citizens want’ approach like now.Do you not understand the premise of democracy? He is terrible

@wildboy789789 You must be kidding, right? You can’t really be this dumb.
Obama is a complete disaster. Glad he had time to be on ‘The View’ last week… WTF? We are in a depression and he goes on a show with 4 fat chicks who just talk about itchy vagines all day. My God.
Re. NASA, man you are out of touch. We are at the LOWEST % of GDP spending for NASA since JFK. I’ll give you a chance to research GDP and look up the facts before responding. Get real.

@RealityCheck86 even if you belive those biased polls, you must know that bush will go down as the lowest approval rateing in history… obama is like jesus, saveing us all from the republicans… all the liberals will vote for obama because hes expanding nasa if you didnt know… but conservatives, will they vote for the pro-war republicans, or the anti-war tea baggers?… i dont care if obama wins 2012, but a democrat will be the winner

@wildboy789789 NO he is not WildBoy. Wake up. Look into what he has done to out space program, NASA, DARPA and other technology/science related entities. His energy bill is a farce. Vote for him if you want in 2012, but he is a one term disaster. Read the polls. He is already dead meat – the worst president we have ever had – regardless of the fact I agree with him on stem cell research.

@oran6es This is where the extreme Right religious fanatics are dead wrong. I am a lifetime Republican voter in most elections, but unlike many on either side, I actually use my brain to pick someone who offers the most intelligent and realistic approach to issues of importance to society development. GWB was wrong. Put the bible down.
Having a special needs child with severe ailments, i feel there is no reason the government should NOT be involved in the funding a research in this area.

@AlTheRelic what they’re saying is that they would use embryos that are being aborted anyways. even though i’m against abortion, i know that there are always going to be abortions and that i can’t stop it. now, why would we have abortions and simply discard the poor children’s bodies? we could at least put them to use, and not let them die in vain. obviously the parent’s dont care what they do with the bodies. either way, you could even use post-birth umbilical chords, where the baby still lives

Sorry, Mr. President, so-called “surplus” embryos are no different morphologically or physiologically than ‘wanted’ embryos.

    They are no less human.

    @locustnhoney
It has to do with paten laws.
A drug company can easily paten a chemical compound it develops, but would have a difficult time retaining exclusive rights to the kinds of treatment that stem cell research would result in. It simply isn’t worth their time to pursue it.

All this talk about the “free market” sorting out such problems is an incredibly flawed ideology in some respects.

Once the research runs low on embryos, would Michelle or your 2 daughters be willing to donate some eggs?

    Limiting run-away health care costs?

At best hESC research and implementation is a cost-prohibitive form of cannibalizing the youngest of our species.

hamisharn started with the name calling. i just called him back on it. Everybody has the right to their opinions. Nobody has the right to do bodily harm to another life. human or not. born or not born yet. that’s my opinion.
