www.ted.com Surgeon Anthony Atala demonstrates an early-stage experiment that could someday solve the organ-donor problem a 3D printer that uses living cells to output a transplantable kidney. Using similar technology, Dr. Atala’s young patient Luke Massella received an engineered bladder 10 years ago; we meet him onstage.TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at www.ted.com

@dvsda6 Yeah Amen to that man! THAT WOULD SUCK SO FRIGGING BAD!!!!!?
this is? GREAT NEWS!!! A friend of mine has pancreas disease, and is on borrowed time, hopefully he can fight long enough 4 this 2 b developed and be saved
who was the man w/? the red shoes and blue sweater?
@DarkZholt EXACTLY,, you ASSUME, they simply misclicked, but you don’t know do you? I think a new TED idea could be a study of variations in taste, not like the pasta TED video, but opinons, seriously, WHY is it in almost every? video, good one, there are dislikes. Are they all the same people? just jerks many SDs from the norm. Or is there a deeper cause? What is the cause of their deviation? I serious have trouble finding videos without dislikes.
this is AMAZING!
?
Amazing!
As long as this? technology doesn’t end up like the movie ‘Repo Men’
@pomc if they are showin us this wtf can they realy do? this is old to? them and new to the masses. ppl who luv science are in amazement
on? the road to living forever down this hi way u must travel
that’s dope?
@Jinearls only the rich? can afford this and the poor will die because they dont have money
Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.?
@SonofSivadas With more and more technology we will get cheaper and more? effective condoms. They may even be recyclable.
the people that dislike it are REPO MEN!?
@loveit4u
“The Super Rich Illuminarti will be able to? transhumanise by combining all this technology and cross genetic pollination by splicing human DNA with animal DNA and demon possesion. And grow slaves to work for them just like in Aldous Huxley’s bokk Brave? New World.”
they’re called politicians.
@loveit4u?

@SonofSivadas it is incredible stuff, and i know that if i had failing organs and this was available to me, i’d hope to receive treatment by it, but along with this kind of technology comes even more overpopulation, it’s like if cancer was cured, yes it would be great on one hand, but think what it would do to the population.
don’t get me wrong, i’m blown away? by this stuff, i’m just saying that we may end up in a situation like that of the film “The Island” or something.
@oshory they’re already printing organs. I think the only one that’s worked so far was a bladder… there’s something about it on a TedTalks thingy… I’ll see? if I can dig up the link for you
I also watched something where they’re stripping animal organs or all cells which leaves a framework that they then cover with human cells and it turns into a human organ. They’ve successfuly transplanted new lungs into a mouse. A hear they made like this started beating by itself!
@ashlymaness how cool is it??? Incredible… You can get these printers for? a little over USD$2K. I used to be a signwriter and a vinyl cutter (plotter) was about the same price years back and a router/engraver was even more expensive… I think this SHITS all over a plotter!
I think this will do for the engineering industry what digital music software has done to the music industry… pretty soon anyone will be able to design anything. Think of the money saved on prototyping…
@JimmyCooperAustralia i want? that printed wrench
With the help of these people. Many lives will be save from death. But the question is, can all? the people afford this? Vote up if “no”
@chan00chap That is the next step. Printing out the whole body around our brains. Then we will? be immortal.
Amazing… I saw something about 3D printing a couple of weeks ago and straight away I? was thinking about printing organs using stem cells or something instead of tools with resins and binders… I mentioned this to someone tonight and she sent me here… incredible… absolutely incredible. Star Trek replicators are next!!! >_<
That’s? incredible!!!!!!!!!
