Adult Stem Cells and Cancer

Adult Stem Cells and Cancer

Riordan Clinic IVC and Cancer Symposium 2010 Presenter: Tom Ichim, Ph.D. – Dr. Ichim gave the attendees an exciting overview of his work with adult cancer stem cells stating that the “war on cancer failed [because] we were targeting the wrong cell!” He hypothesizes that instead of targeting the treatment to kill the cancer cell what if we asked the question, “[Since] stem cells heal injured tissue…if cancer is a ‘non-healing wound’, what if we try to heal it with stem cells?” Dr. Ichim presented exciting basic science research that supports this premise.

After 6 months of offering stem cell therapy in combination with the venous? angioplasty liberation procedure, patients of CCSVI Clinic have reported excellent health outcomes. Ms. Kasma Gianopoulos of Athens Greece, who was diagnosed with the Relapsing/Remitting form of MS in 1997 called the combination of treatments a “cure”. “I feel I am completely cured” says Ms. Gianopoulos, “my symptoms have disappeared? and I have a recovery of many functions, notably my balance and my muscle strength is all coming (back). Even after six months, I feel like there are good changes happening almost every day. Before, my biggest fear was that the changes wouldn’t (hold). I don’t even worry about having a relapse anymore”. A group of Canadian patients just back from Noble have reported similar results. “I can actually see what I thought were long-dead muscles forming in my feet” said Larry Vermeersch of Kenora, Ontario. “My? balance is back and I’m walking without a cane. I’m a pretty hard guy to convince, but getting these two procedures together has made me a believer. I’m looking forward to the physio ahead because I can feel everything coming back.” Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more info.Ph No +1(404)461-9560.

A universal benefit reported by every patient has been the recovery of bladder control. Most MS patients have various bladder control symptoms that include urinary urgency, incontinence, nocturia, or urinary hesitancy? as a result of the disruption of electrical impulses from the brain to the nerves and muscles that are involved in emptying the bladder (pudenal nerve, urethral sphincter, detrusor muscle). Dr.Avneesh Gupte, the Neurosurgeon at Noble Hospital performing the procedure has been encouraged by results in Cerebral Palsy patients as? well. “We are fortunate to be able to offer the treatment because not every hospital is able to perform these types of transplants. You must have the specialized medical equipment and specially trained doctors and nurses”. With regard to MS patients, “We are cautious, but nevertheless excited by what patients are telling us. Suffice to say that the few patients who have had the therapy through us are noticing recovery of neuro deficits beyond what the venous angioplasty alone should account for”. Dr. Hemangi of Noble continues: “These are early days and certainly all evidence that the combination of liberation and stem cell therapies working together at this point is anecdotal. However I am not aware of other medical facilities in the world that offer the synthesis of both? to MS patients on an approved basis and it is indeed a rare opportunity for MS patients to take advantage of a treatment that is quite possibly unique in the world”. Autologous stem cell transplantation is a procedure by which blood-forming stem cells are removed, and later injected back into the patient. All stem cells are taken from the patient themselves and cultured for later injection. In the case of a bone marrow transplant, the HSC are typically removed from the Pelvis through a large needle that can reach into the bone. Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information. The technique is referred to as a bone marrow harvest and is performed under a general anesthesia.? The incidence of patients experiencing rejection is rare due to the donor and recipient being the same individual. This remains the only approved method of the SCT therapy. Capricor is a joke, what normal person would want a chunk of their heart taken away so that they can grwo stem? cells

thank? you for the good comments ! this indeed is a very interesting field !

@stemcellscientist and reimplanding with the company Capricor in Los angeles.

In any case there is a lot of reasons to think about using nutritional support in order to properly feed the injury of? the tumor so that the tumor angiogensis will reduce and the tumor wound will heal properly. This is one way in which some of the naturopathic treatments may be working.
I love the support behind using intravenous ascorbic acid, but that seems to be working not necessarily on the cancer stem cell

  16. Comments  stemcellscientist   |  Monday, 12 December 2011 at 6:46 am

@stemcellpatents I agree with your point but i think that you meant to say that cancer cells are rapidly multiplying not the non-cancer stem cells. As Thomas Ichim pointed out the stem cells in the dendtate gyrus, the subventricular zone, the hematopoietic system and the ones that make oocytes are actually quienscent cells in? the G0 state of cell cycle until they are subjected to injury. I love the comparison with the cardiac specific stem cells that eduardo marban is extracting, expanding and

There? is a lot of publications supporting the premise of Dr. Ichim’s talk. What is very important to note is that the cancer stem cell does not rapidly multiple like other stem cells do. In fact the cancer stem cell actually is quienscent and resistant to drugs. This is why it is important to try approaches like what he is talking about that actually induce the differentiation of the stem cell into cells that are not cancerous. The big question is whether these agents will exhaust health cel

@troopermission Very mature comments there “Trooper” looks like my friend? Tania did a great job of answering you…I wonder who you are anyways that you would go and write what you wrote

@crazedromanian? are you Thomas Ichim, Mr “Crazed Romanian”?

  21. Comments  crazedromanian   |  Monday, 12 December 2011 at 8:19 am

Thomas cited Osiris as one of the leading companies in the space, despite the fact that he is CEO of a competitor company called Medistem. This work that Dr. Ichim is describing has nothing to do with bone marrow transplant. I would question however what effect does the bone marrow? transplant have to do with donor lymphocyte infusion, specifically would reduction in graft versus host also reduce graft versus leukemia?

  22. Comments  troopermission   |  Monday, 12 December 2011 at 8:35 am

@taniawatts No? I think that you too are stupid. The point is that use of mesenchymal stem cells for treatment of leukemia may have been causing differentiation and that Thomas Ichim did not mention that other people have been using this approach before

  23. Comments  taniawatts   |  Monday, 12 December 2011 at 9:24 am

@troopermission SHAME ON YOU TROOPER !! IT IS OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE A MORON AND HAVE NO BUSINESS DISCUSSING THINGS ABOVE YOUR HEAD.

the “company” IS CALLED OSIRIS AND THEY WERE DOING LEUKEMIAS AFTER BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT…THE WORK PRESENTED HERE HAD SOLID TUMORS AND HAD EVIDENCE? OF DIFFERENTIATION

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN TUMOR KILLING AND DIFFERENTIATION? IF YOU DID YOU WOULD NOT BE POSTINT STUPID THINGS ON THE INTERNET OR USING A FAKE NAME

  24. Comments  troopermission   |  Monday, 12 December 2011 at 9:34 am

The therapeutic use of stem cells in cancers, particularly in leukemias, has been performed IN THE USA BY THE COMPANY THAT IS USING BONE MARROW DERIVED MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS FOR? THE TREATMENT OF GRAFT VERSUS HOST DISEASE

Thomas you stole that idea and claimed credit for it yourself. Shame on you. You are an imposter. I have watched your videos carefully and was previously impressed. Now I am extremely disappointed

Wow I had no idea that stem cells may be useful for cancer. I have seen the great discussions on your Justin TV channel. This is some cutting edge work.
